So friends, we now hit the end of my highlighting some of the finest luthiers I, personally have encountered in life. In case you have missed any part of this journey, it began with a somewhat "up and coming" luthier right here in my own backyard in Tennessee, Gary Yearby, check it out! Then I moved on to the man who I believe is the greatest boutique luthier alive and working today, check out Jon Kammerer. But right here and now, let's talk about the greatest boutique electric guitar luthier ever in the history of mankind, in my opinion, Peter Davidoff.
God smiled on me, and I, quite by accident, bought a guitar on eBay because it went fairly cheap and was listed as being custom built by the greatest luthier in the world. I didn't know about all THAT, but it DID look like a exquisite instrument; although nothing terribly flashy or exotic, Here is the guitar in question:
Yep, basically a walnut body HH "Strat" style guitar, nuttin special, right? Wrong. This was flat-out the best feeling guitar I've ever held in my hands, still is! And so I decided I needed to find out who this Peter Davidoff guy is. Turns out he is no longer alive, what a loss! My web-search informed me that he was a Serbian master luthier who was also VERY beloved in the BYO Pedal community. Here is a very kind and fitting farewell from his friends and folks he helped on the freestompboxes site. Luckily there are surviving galleries of his instruments still available on the web. I started looking. I was in shock ... still am. I'd never seen work like his. Beyond belief. EVERY aspect of his work was flawless, and it would seem MY guitar is the only non-exotic build he ever did. Here is Peter in his shop with a VERY impressive double-neck electric bass build:
So now, I'm going to shut up and let the master's work do it's own talking. I will, however, direct your attention to a few items of extreme interest to me:
Ready ... set ... drool!
