Vaughn's Holy Grail Historic V-Trons

Vaughn's Holy Grail Historic V-Trons

The true Holy Grail of Filtertron type pickups. These beauties are built of the most precise machined parts this side of 1965, produced from the original 1957 patent drawing to total accuracy. They are meticulously hand-wound with 50’s correct Heavy Formvar coil wire and use magnets of exactly vintage size and composition that are hand-charged to precise tolerances. Even the size and composition of original pole screws has been precisely replicated. In an industry first, the oh-so-important baseplate is a dead reproduction of a vintage example from the 1957-1963 period. As with the originals, these are left completely un-potted. All this meticulous attention to detail ensures that these will be the sweetest sounding Filtertron style pickups you have EVER heard. Awash in complex harmonics, the playing experience with my V-Trons is downright rewarding; you will find the guitar plays you as you play her … luring magic out of you that you could never have conjured on your own.

If you want the tone of Brian Setzer, Eddie Cochran, and of course much of George Harrison’s most iconic tones … these are the pickups for you. Don’t be fooled by the low measured resistance of these, they can cover a LOT of sonic ground; from twang and surf to grunge and punk … oh, and of course hillbilly country and hot-rod rockabilly. At this point I am only offering them wound in the vintage-correct range, however I have calibrated the winds on the bridge and neck positions to perfection in those specific locations; we all wish the originals had been thus calibrated. If you want a Filtertron style pickup “wound hot”, then you probably don’t REALLY want a Filtertron at all; as you begin to wind them hotter and/or change to smaller wire gauge or insulation, well you just lose all the magic that a Filtertron embodies.

Please note that I offer these with an optional “English mount” adaptor as well as humbucker sized Nickle-Silver humbucker-sized mounting rings, for mounting in humbucker equipped or certain other guitars. NOTE: on arched/carved top guitars like Les Pauls, you will need to add 3rd party pickup spacer rings to achieve the correct pickup height and fit to the carved/curved top of your guitar.
