Suggestion for a Mesa Recto 4x12

I need some advice on what to load a Mesa Recto 4x12 slant cab with.  It currently has Celestion G12K-100's and Mesa Black Shadow MC-90's in there and I really dislike the results.  I find it too bright and very directional.  I didn't care for it with the stock V30's that were there prior to this combo either.

I have traditionally been a hard rock player and tune to Dropped-D a half step down, but my latest tastes and project have me playing more in the vein of bands like Anberlin, Incubus and U2 from a guitar perspective.

As a reference for varieties sake, I also have the following cabs:

- 1960A with x-patterned V30/T75's (my benchmark cab)

- VHT 2x12 combo converted to an open back cab with P-100e's

- Randall 2x12/1x15 with stock Eminence speakers

- Mesa Horizontal 2x12 with K100/MC-90 (excellent pairing in this cab)

- Custom Self-built 1x12 with EV 200-watter

Amps include VHT Sig X, Mesa Single Rectoverb, Stilletto, Mark V, Randall and Egnater MTS rigs (x4), Peavey 6505+ and Soldano HR-50.

I don't think I am looking for a "metal" tone from this 4x12, as many of my other cabs cover that well.  Ideally, something with a woody knock, solid and defined bottom and excellent definition would be the outcome.  The Soldano is super tight and has a lot of highs, so if it could thicken that amp and tame some of the shrillness the current speakers give it I would be very happy.

Tall order, no?!!  Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Because you state:

I would suggest ET65's on the bottom, and Vet 30's on top ...or ...

ET65's and Liberators for a little more bottom ...or ...

All ET65's for a very warm and smooth cab.

Post back w/ your decision & results!
