Speaker for Laney Lionheart L5 Studio?

Hi,

I have a Laney Lionheart L5 Studio 5watt head. I am using it with a Palmer semi-closed back cab.

I try and play blues and rock. RHCP, Metallica, Buckcherry, Philip Sayce, Jimi Hendrix, Rival Sons type songs. So quite a mix. Home use only at the moment. My guitar is a PRS 25th Anniversay McCarty with Narrowfield pick ups. I mainly play at low volumes due to neighbours (not much beyond 2 on the volume). I tend to use the drive channel and clean it up with guitars volume.

I have a Celestion G12h30 70th anniversary speaker in at the moment that sounds good but would like a slightly brighter and quieter speaker. The G12h30 isn't properly broken in yet. I have watched and enjoyed many youtube vids with Vaughn. I like the sound of the WGS G12Q and G12C. Can the G12Q handle gain?

Has anyone else tried a WGS speaker in a Laney Lionheart with good results?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

Hello,

I have the same question. I have the exact same head (Laney l5 studio), and the corresponding 2x12 cabinet. I´m looking for info to upgrade the speakers. The cabinet currently has two Celestion G12 H, and I´m wondering if upgrading to alnico is worth the extra money. Any help?

My main shop amp is the rack-mount Laney Ironheart Studio (2-EL84's) ... I assume it's voiced similar to your 5-watters.
The Blackhawk (not HP) would be an insanely perfect choice ... IF you can afford AlNiCo!
If not, for slightly brighter, I'd go with a Retro 30 ... for slightly quieter, then YES a G12Q ... and for all-around best gigging speaker, a ET65.
