Headroom, clarity, balanced response, power... These terms have become synonymous with a vintage American design that is known and sought the world over. WGS now pays tribute to this classic with our WGS12L. However, like all of our designs, we didn't set out to make a clone. With this model we paid extra special attention to the details, producing a speaker that delivers that same even response without sounding sterile and lifeless. Boasting a cast frame, 2.5" voice coil, and a 200-watt rating, and clocking in at 18 pounds, this beast is loaded for bear. As a welcome addition to the WGS fleet, this speaker is definitely our battleship. #EV #electrovoice

Will not fit a Mesa Thiele cabinet.

I purchased one of these to replace an EVM 12L in a Mesa Thiele cabinet. The EVM 12L requires an 11” cutout for front mounting. The Mesa Thiele (I tried 2 different cabs) has an 11” cutout. The WGS12L does not fit the baffle cutout despite the specs on the WGS website listing the 12L cutout required as 11”. I suspect the basket is actually metric and is close, but slightly larger than 11”.

I was not able to use the speaker at all so my review is not based on the speaker’s performance. I’m posting this review here just to let people know this is not going to work as an EVM replacement in a Mesa Thiele without routing the baffle larger.

Awesome speaker

Got this to replace a haggard EV SRO 12l. Perfect replacement. Took about 5 seconds to dial in, and I love it.

In Praise of the WGS12L

I have just installed this speaker in a ‘65 Deluxe Reverb Reissue. I had no idea how lousy my amp sounded before. If you’re after crystal clear recreation of the guitar and amp, with no lofi filtering through the speaker, this is the one. Big, fat, punchy lows, snappy highs, and a midrange that you can honestly adjust to taste through the amp EQ. This speaker responds very drastically to amp and guitar controls. Dial it in to your liking and it rewards with lush, full frequency tones. Killer speaker. Thank you, WGS, for consistently delivering what guitar players want at prices that allow us to stay married. You guys are the best.

The speaker suits the Amp perfectly.

Chad Lesch is the lead guitarist of the rock band Stone Driver which was recently voted as "Best Original Band" by the Washington City Paper for 2018. Stone Driver has shared billings with Vintage Trouble, Smash Mouth, Everclear, Everlast, Living Colour, Bush, and The B-52's. For Stone Driver's high energy blend of rock, grunge, and blues, Chad favors Two-Rock & Soldano amps paired with 2x12 cabs loaded with a WGS Blackhawk HP and WGS12L speaker.

"The WGS12L's full frequency response and muscle combined with the Blackhawk HP's chime and warmth is a sweetheart when you play clean, cuts like a velvet dagger with a little overdrive, and then hits you like a sledgehammer to the chest with some of the rawest and complex tones I've ever heard when gained up. They are an absolute joy and inspiration to play."
