Headroom, clarity, balanced response, power... These terms have become synonymous with a vintage American design that is known and sought the world over. WGS now pays tribute to this classic with our WGS12L. However, like all of our designs, we didn't set out to make a clone. With this model we paid extra special attention to the details, producing a speaker that delivers that same even response without sounding sterile and lifeless. Boasting a cast frame, 2.5" voice coil, and a 200-watt rating, and clocking in at 18 pounds, this beast is loaded for bear. As a welcome addition to the WGS fleet, this speaker is definitely our battleship. #EV #electrovoice

Review of Sanjay Subramanian on 12" WGS12L - 200 watts

I purchased this last month. Very happy with my purchase. I used to use the Electro-Voice EVM12L and find WGS 200w much (much) better. Warmer and just better sounding. I use a traditional heavy weight Avatar 1x12 cab. I use my custom Bassman head through this speaker. Also I use the Orange Super Crush 100 head through this speaker. The Fractal FX8 drive sounds so good. Think EC and Cream. My on stage and rehearsal guitars are ESP LTD EC-1000 Deluxe (with JB and 59 pickups) and a Peerless Renaissance Custom Hollow Body.

I picked up an Ampeg VL-503, a 90's Lee Jackson hot rod 112 combo amp, 75 watts. It originally came with an EV 12L which conveniently (not!) was not included with the amp. I popped for the WGS 12L, not because it was slightly less cost than an EV, but because this amp has plenty of top end and I wanted something close to the EV but a little warmer. The WGS 12L has proven to be an amazing speaker for this amp. The amp itself is extremely versatile both clean and dirty and this speaker does it all really well. Only downside, it significantly adds weight to the combo (18 lbs.), but that huge magnet is part of the magic. Being a 200 watt speaker, the break-in took some effort. I pushed a 100Hz sine wave through the amp at low volume for several hours making sure the speaker did not overheat and that did the trick. That said, it still continues to get better with use. Very impressive speaker that does come at a cost (a very large investment for me personally), nevertheless I highly recommend it. AND the WGS folks are awesome to work with, very pleased.

I ordered one of these 12" WGS12L - 200 watt 8 ohm speakers to replace the stock 80 watt Celestion speaker in my Fender Super Champ 1x12 cab. With this speaker, I get the better quality sound with this bad boy than the speakers in my stock Marshall MG 4x12 cab. I am impressed. I decided on this one because I needed a speaker that could handle the 100 Watt Marshall HCFX head without breaking up with all of my solid state highs and gain like the Celestion did. No soldering or spade terminals required, installation is identical to an old JBL 120 guitar speaker. Just push the cap down on the terminal and slide the bare tip of the wire into the hole, let go and the spring does the rest of the work. I also love the look of the name plate, very ornamental. Too bad I won't be seeing it with my closed back cab. Amazing quality stuff, I even loved the sound of this speaker before I broke it in right with my trigger happy amp cranking fingers. Talk about bang for your buck! Guess the next step is to get some Green Berets for my 4x12.

For Stone Driver's high energy blend of rock, grunge, and blues, Chad favors Two-Rock & Soldano amps paired with 2x12 cabs loaded with a WGS Blackhawk HP and WGS12L speaker.

"The WGS12L's full frequency response and muscle combined with the Blackhawk HP's chime and warmth is a sweetheart when you play clean, cuts like a velvet dagger with a little overdrive, and then hits you like a sledgehammer to the chest with some of the rawest and complex tones I've ever heard when gained up. They are an absolute joy and inspiration to play."
