Guitar Players, Why You Should Know Some Jazz Chords

by vaughn skow August 06, 2019 1 min read

Howdy guitar gang!  This one is gonna be short and straight to the point.  If you can't play some big, full complicated Jazz chords, you're missing out on a lot.  Why, well read on!

A few years back I was asked to play some background "jazzy" guitar for a wedding dinner.  They had no particular songs in mind, they just wanted it to sound like sophisticated jazz during the time the guests would be eating.  I'd never played any real jazz, but I took this as a great opportunity to learn, and I might mention the gig payed a BUNCH of money, so there's that.

So pronto I googled up "must know Jazz chords guitar" and in just a few days I could fake a pretty decent jazz guitarist.  I even found some sited with great backing tracks to play along with, so follow the link!   The gig was super easy, clean, comfortable, and I was home in time to snuggle up on the sofa and watch a move with my sweetheart.  How cool, right?  Plus, it paid more than what 4-5 piece bands usually make in Nashville.  As a result, I've certainly continued to look for gigs like that.  You should too.

Second reason; when your testing out a guitar or piece of guitar gear in a store and you start coaxing out some sweeet jazz chords, nobody thinks your a knob! (like they do when you wail away on some 80's hair metal solo).

Nuff said?  I think so.  So google away and get those  jazz chops up.
