Congrats to Jason Spain - winner of a free WGS Speaker!

by vaughn skow July 05, 2010 2 min read

Hey everybody,

What better way to celebrate the 4thof July than with a free speaker - made by a great American company!  Our first contest is officially over, but don’t worry!  There will be more to come.  You already know how awesome WGS speakers are; getting one FREE is off-the-charts awesome!  Keep reading this blog; I’ll be giving more away soon.  I promise.

In case you are wondering just exactly what all those amps in the contest were, well read-on for the list:

  1. 1959 Fender Deluxe – the epitome of “sweet”, downright hypnotic to play through.
  2. 1950 Fender Pro – sweeter still … even more aural nirvana.
  3. Late 60’s Heath kit 100-watt (4-6L6) head - lotsa clean headroom – nice tube bass amp.
  4. Mid 80’s Marshall 9005 dual 50-watt tube rack head (cool, but a little 80’s cheese factor)
  5. Early 80’s Randall RG-80 – the original 80’s pop/metal tone – liquid, tight and solid.
  6. Early 80’s Marshall Artist 3203 – sweet little sleeper – Marshall crunch & Fender cleans.
  7. Marshall 1965B 4-10 cab – way tighter than a 1960 4-12 – great for club stages.
  8. Original 1970’s pignose battery powered amp – classic “cardboard box” tone.
  9. 70’s Peavey Backstage-Plus – 1949 Chevy truck badge didn’t improve tone…

10. 1960’s Woodson 2-12 cab with CTS Alnico speakers (very Woodstock…)

11. 1959 prototype brown Fender Super – (w/backwards controls) yep, it really does exist!

12. 1980’s Mesa MK III – all the bells & whistles and still no tone.

13. 1965 Fender Bassman – no bells & whistles but tone to die for.

14. 1967 Fender Super Reverb – God’s personal amp, best sounding amp in the world.

15. Pre-CBS early 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb – quintessential Fender clean tone.

16. 1980’s Marshall JCM 800 (2210) – sounds like the Randall, but costs a lot more.

17. 1975 Fender Vibrosonic – a 100-watt Twin Reverb with a 15” JBL D130F – BIG twang.

18. Cute little Washburn acoustic amp – actually sounds pretty good…

19. 1960’s Unicord (Stage) 65 – Lucy in the sky with germanium diode clipping!

20. Crate CA112D – nice acoustic amp with effects – doubles as a decent coffee-house PA.

21. Pignose G40V – with the right speaker, it’ a tiny yet sweet 40-watt tube amp.

22. Obsessive guitar tone geek who really needs to get a life.
